Big problem - noise at 3am from a diesel truck in parking lot just outside the window with loud (jackhammer type) machinery woke us up. When it persisted, I requested staff take care of it. Staff pretended to do something but when I finally got dressed to see why it wasn't being handled, staff was happily eating and not doing anything. I asked why he hadn't done anything for 15 minutes and he said he needed to take care of some phone calls. (He wasn't taking care of "phone calls" at 3am, he was eating and ignoring his guests' discomfort). By 4:30 am another employee showed up and was equally dismissive (even argumentative - which was galling knowing that guests had been up already 1-1/2 hour from the noise). He equally acted as if it wasn't in their "obligation" to do anything. No one cared and pretended they did not know how to take care of it. I asked for a room across the hall, packed up, staff met me at the other room, only to have a key that didn't work. He left to get another key and after standing in the hall with all of my belongings for almost 15 minutes, I went to the lobby to see what the problem was. He supposedly didn't know how to get a key made "didn't know what was wrong" and didn't have any other favorable rooms. In hindsight I wish I had called police and filed a "disturbing the peace" report myself. The noise (like a jackhammer) lasted until after 6am. I slept from 6:30 to 7:30 and when I went to check out at 8am all 5 staff on duty were outside the lobby door smoking and carousing. This was a very low class, trashy experience. Stay down the street at Holiday Inn Express or another more reputable place with polite, caring staff.
I would stay at this Red Lion again for the Jacuzzi, and recommend it to others who want that feature. We (my husband and I) were in a handicap accessible room that had an in-room spa / Jacuzzi, as I requested when making a reservation. I had a convertible walker / transport chair that was bigger than most walkers and many wheelchairs, but not all.
The spa was in a corner of the main room. A wheelchair could be rolled right up to it and it had grab bars. There was plenty of hot water and the tub was big enough for two large people. The was a fridge, microwave, and large TV. The walls seemed plenty thick; the only noises we heard were the heavy room doors closing. The room could have used new paint / wallpaper, attention to baseboards and tile, that sort of thing. It wasn't ratty but not sparkling either.
This hotel is way better than I expected! The included breakfast is super convenient. It is situated close to the U of O & downtown. The beds are extremely comfortable!
The staff -- front desk early evening and early morning; housekeeping early evening -- that we encountered were helpful and friendly.
The room was only a few doors down from the front desk (first floor), the door opened out into the corridor, did not have a raised threshold, and the peephole in the door was wheelchair height. All of the bathroom fixtures were low enough and wide enough to allow wheelchair access. There were no thresholds and the floor was just barely sloped enough to get the water down the drain. The shower could be hand-held, and there were grab bars for toilet and shower.
As for free breakfast: there were excellent mini cheese omelettes, link sausages, a waffle iron, cold cereal and milk, and individually wrapped pieces of Tillamook cheese. There were biscuits in what a thought was a warmer, but they were stone cold, and I couldn't find a microwave in the breakfast area. It was tight quarters in the breakfast area and I had to rearrange chairs somewhat to get through.
Beds were a dream. TV was big and flat. Nice sized fridge. Close enough to walk to our venue, and only a 10min walk to voodoo doughnuts. Staff was helpful, and the waffle bar may have saved my life.
Nice clean room. Comfy beds. A tiny bit outdated but nothing too noticeable. Slightly thin walls but again, nothing too bad. Great location, parking no issue for me. Would stay again!
