They came out numerous times to correct the RV gate, made some corrections, but finally I just gave up and signed off the work because I did not want his workers on my property any longer.
Great work ! Entire project was on schedule. Crews are very professional. Highly recommend.
The workers were incredibly careless. They shot nails through the fence boards missing the intended 2x4 on the bad side exposing dozens of nails on the neighbors side. I took plenty of pictures, and when Roger asked for his remaining 25% I sent the photos. I would be embarrassed of this kind of negligent and shoddy workmanship, but there were no apologies...nothing. As far as the RV gate, screws not all the way in, some were at very odd angles, there were gaps too wide and other gaps too narrow the gates were uneven.. Just overall very shoddy careless workmanship. The owner says he has an architectural degree from the U of O. He did a good job sketching out the fence design. But it seems he just hires whoever he can find at the moment to do the actual work.
Terrible experience from start to finish. It took us months of the owner not responding to us to realize that he was never going to finish the work. After filing a complaint with the CCB the owner finally responds and says he's been "sitting on materials" and is ready to finish the job. This is three months AFTER he stopped communication with us and seven months after we paid him $4000. We attempt to work it out with him, but communication breaks down and we file with the CCB. However, the owner of McKenzie Fence files an unfounded small claim against us, which stops us from proceeding with the complaint. We are forced to file a counterclaim and go through mediation to get back the $2470 of unfinished work. Would never, ever, ever recommend. (Check Angie's List for a more detailed review).
Avoid! Pay a bit extra and call Evergreen Fence or anyone reputable.
There seems to be little communication between Roger the owner and the actual workers. First, they started by building sections with the "bad side" facing inwards when I'm paying 100% for the fence and specifically stated I wanted the "bad side" facing toward the neighbors. So they had to take down about 60lf of fence. Next, when they tore down my old RV gate, I guess they just assumed they could keep all the gate locks themselves that I had just paid for from Jerrys, and installed a year earlier. I immediately asked them to return the gate equipment which they did so I could install it on the new RV gate.
While the estimate is through and complete, that is about the only positive comment for McKenzie Fence Co. They took 3 months to complete a 6 foot cedar fence round my home. And yes, the contract actually states different pay rates depending on the completion date. It appears to be written by lawyers covering most everything.
To my recolition they took almost 4 months to put up our fence. They would say they'd be there on a certain day and time and never showed up. They would take days to a week to get back to us on an email. A lot of the boards have knots and are warped, we were told they would come back and replace them. Haven't heard back from them since and it's been months. I was not satisfied with the work done.
