The stuff inside this place is cool. However you can order it all from various websites without needing to step foot in this store and overpay. I've never been made to feel so uncomfortable in a store where I can choose to spend my hard earned money. I've walked by the windows of this shop many times and decided to see beyond the windows today and walk in. My partner and I both felt extremely judged upon opening the door. We have jobs and can afford to buy the things in this shop however we were being watched meticulously as though we were shoplifters. We did not take anything nor did we disturb the displays. However, upon leaving we watched the unfriendly judgmental shopkeeper walk to every corner of her shop and assess her inventory. I will never enter this store again which is a shame as it could be an option for a fun, unique gift. Please do not support this type of business. Passionflower, down to earth, or any quirky shop in town deserves your business more than these haters.
I am confused by the review of Viva Werner and saddened that she had an unpleasant experience. I have shopped frequently at Modern for 12 years and have not ever experienced anything close to what she describes. I find the owner of the store to be kind, gracious and respectful of everyone. She has exquisite taste and has brought to Eugene a unique and affordable modern design store.
