Some great staff members but poor to bad management. My mother in law in for rehab post hip fracture. She stated the food was good and physical therapists were great. Although she was left on a commode unattended for more than 45 minutes on second day there. Took buzzer from room mate and screaming to finally get help in there. Resulting in both legs numb and bruising the next day. Multiple phone calls to nursing supervisor never returned. New room mate assigned days later who was unruly and would urinate on the floor at night and left TV on all night long. We asked for our mother to be moved to another room (there were plenty available on the same wing) and request ignored.
If you care for you lived one, do NOT place them in this facility. Our mother was in this facility and she did not receive the care she needed. Our family had to go over daily because we worried about her care. There were no other openings in Eugene, so we had trouble trying to move her. They are all about profit and the nursing staff was too busy to do their jobs. Daily we had to go over and change her depends, wet clothes, and clean her up. The staff at the North station was too busy to be able to take care of all the patients. If you are private pay the care is better. If you have insurance, the care goes out the door. It is all based on how much money and profit they can make, not about care for your loved one. They were even too busy to give her the care she needed on the day she passed away. I know because I was there caring for her on the last day. This place and management should be ashamed of themselves.
I would not recommend leaving someone you love here, especially if they are unable or unwilling to be assertive and advocate for themselves. Management desperately needs an overhaul. Everything seems to be driven by the profit motive and, sadly, the type of insurance you have largely determines the quality of care you will receive. They are nearly always short-staffed on CNAs which results in long call light wait times leading to falls. Not surprisingly, most elderly are unable to wait an hour to go to the bathroom and will try to take themselves. People have even been left unattended for excessive lengths of time on bed pans, resulting in injuries and falls. The food is awful with many people refusing to eat it, resulting in unintended weight loss. The building is shabby and in desperate need of renovations. The patient rooms, especially the bathrooms, never seem to be very clean and are often lacking basic necessities like clean hand towels and bed linens. The therapists are very good but are under a lot of pressure by management to participate in unethical practices. I would not recommend working or staying here.
I just came home after a 10 day stay at Valley West, where I went to rehab after knee replacement. I found that the staff was very helpful, kind at to the best of their ability there for me when I needed them. The PT was very helpful and got me moving sooner than expected. The food was OK for a place that serves so many people but I did miss some good vegetables. It is a busy place and sometimes staff get involved with a patient or there is a change of shift which sometime slows up the response time, so one does need to exercise some patience. Also, I strongly recommend anyone going there after surgery to be sure you have some pain meds with you as can take a long time for the pharmacy to deliver the needed meds. All in all my experience was very positive.
Mom got her rehab here after loss of her leg. Great staff pretty good facility
